Employability Skills for Neurodiverse Young People

This project is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund in Wales. We are offering specially designed ILM modules tailored for the Neurodiverse community to help them develop employability and soft skills, enabling them to secure full-time employment. This programme is aimed at those who are undergraduates, graduates, and alumni. This 12-month project, starting in Autumn 2024, will benefit employers, Neurodiverse young people, and government sectors by providing opportunities to become active citizenship. The project will run in four cohorts, each with five selected candidates.

What is it all about?

Provide employability skills training and support over a minimum of four days at our office (5-7 Museum Place, Cardiff, CF10 3BD), and through Zoom for small groups of candidates.

This will cover:

  1. Bespoke Soft Skills training
    1. Presentation skills
    2. Problem Solving skills
    3. Confidence building
    4. Leadership
  2. ILM Training modules
    1. Leading Your Work Team
    2. Managing Yourself
  3. A total of up to 5 hours of coaching and mentoring session per candidate – made to bring the best out of you. This will include advice and help with interviews and CV writing to give candidates the best chance of gaining employment.

Project objectives:

  1. Foster Community Connections: Create inclusive workshops and activities that bring neurodiverse young people together, promoting collaboration and mutual support across communities.
  2. Empower Potential: Provide tailored employability skills training to neurodiverse individuals at an early stage, and enabling them to achieve their full employability potential.
  3. Address Unique Challenges: Offer targeted tools and support to help neurodiverse individuals overcome workplace challenges.
  4. Equip for Future Success: Build essential skills to prepare neurodiverse participants for future success, while strengthening community bonds.

Expected results & impact

  1. Improved communication, presentation skills, and collaboration.
  2. Enhanced leadership and team dynamics understanding.
  3. Better self-management and coping strategies.
  4. The ability to achieve gainful employment and not be underemployed.

Beneficiaries

The main beneficiaries for this programme will be neurodiverse individuals aged 18 to 26. This will be for candidates who are undergraduates, graduates, and alumni. This programme will benefit individuals who are unemployed or underemployed. The project will benefit employer, Neurodiverse young people, and government sectors because it will offer opportunities for this target group to be active citizens otherwise, they will not have this opportunity.
